COMMEMORATING NEW ENGLAND'S VANISHING INDUSTRIAL LANDSCAPE

I have recently completed this watercolor painting, a private commission to commemorate the 100-year-old Frank J. Wood Bridge connecting Topsham and Brunswick Maine. The three-span truss bridge has been the physical link between the two cities and the visual connection between two historic mill complexes, but it has been allowed to deteriorate and became unsafe. Rather than fixing this historic structure, the State of Maine is demolishing and replacing it with what looks and feels like freeway exit ramp which will overshadow the mills and visually isolate them. Commissions like this provide a special opportunity to study and celebrate common structures that were vital components of the built environment!
